About the experience "Nocino: The Amaro of Tradition"

On June 24, the night of commemoration of the birth of St. John the Baptist, tradition dictates that walnuts must be collected in order to prepare the Amaro Nocino of San Giovanni.

This evening falls on the summer solstice, a period tied to traditional beliefs and customs.

The Nocino is a part of these ancient customs and, incorporated in the Italian tradition of the close of a shared dinner, occupies a place of honour. It is prepared commencing with the harvest of the still-unripe walnut fruits and is followed by their maceration in alcohol, a way to extract their magical 'nectar'.

Once bottled, the Nocino is kept in a dark place until Christmas, marking the winter solstice at which the Nocino is consumed and enjoyed.

The typical amber colour of the Nocino is given by the Sun, which pulls it out of the various essences added to the recipe.
