Carving forms into timber, free-form or inspired by nature, is a journey within oneself. One in which the activity of the soul can be experienced as a breath that connects the idea with action, the thought with the will.
You'll carry out this experience in a typical workshop in the centre of Sorrento, where you'll be guided by a Biagio technician, a wood inlayer of third-generation tradition.
Create unique pieces entirely by hand according to the canons of traditional Sorrento inlay work.
You'll learn how to transform your timber, into "a call of emotion" ...
Using the techniques of Sorrentine marquetry, you'll produce a small object with your very own hands, choosing the colours and the type of timber inlaid in order to produce your work.
The Sorrentine Inlay
The Sorrento Peninsula boasts a centuries-old tradition in the art of marquetry in timber. Beginning in the early to mid 19th century, talented Sorrento artisans were the first to promote this technique, which spread throughout the Neapolitan territory. Thanks to the fame of Sorrento as a holiday resort, many international celebrities, from political and cultural worlds of repute, were able to encounter and admire the skills of our cabinet makers. They were appreciated even to the extent of being hired by Francesco I of Bourbon for the restoration of the Royal Palace furnishings.
