An experience to learn about the principle instrument of the musical tradition of the entire southern Italy.
The Sicilian tambourine is among the richest and most varied styles of frame drums in the world.
It enjoys an almost legendary fame, and to experience a tradition of this type is a particularly valuable occasion.
Once an instrument of women, and now played by men, the tambourine in Sicily accompanies songs, serenades, moments of dance.
We find it in the company of Bagpipes a Paru, Friscaletti, Marranzani and double flutes.
A journey to discover Sicilian popular tradition through its sounds and its rhythms.
- Knowledge of the instrument: grip, posture, main strokes of the music, traditional, basic rhythm.
- Discovering the different existing techniques and learning basic rhythms;
- Learning about other rhythms and improvisation practice.
- The local speaks: english, italian.
The experience is aimed at everyone; it is not necessary to have prior theoretical and musical knowledge.
